Les Minquiers are a group of islands and rocks, about 15 km (9.3 mi) south of Jersey. This was quite an adventure for us since we had to mobilize via speedboat from Jersey in order to land our survey team, led by Nicolas Brikke in a narrow tidal window. Blue skies, gentle breezes and a calm sea provided perfect conditions for the acquisition of the drone photographs needed to create a digital twin of the small collection of ancient fishing huts (plus one toilet and a helipad).
It doesn’t need much imagination to picture how powerful winter storms can overwhelm the infrastructure on this small rock. This is why consulting engineers from Arup needed 3D models of the natural defences as well as information to virtually inspect the condition of the buildings.
